Garlic Mustard Journal (May 10, 2026)

From: Judy S.: On Mother’s Day I enjoyed a long session in the woods checking up on the garlic mustard status and decided to put it in journal form with photos.  It was an idyllic afternoon – weather just right, almost no one else in the woods and no traffic sounds.

Mother’s Day – Session # 3(?) 1.5 hours

May 10, 2026 - Garlic Mustard Journal

Walked down the main path to the pond. Saw the Boardwalk work done by Phil & Kim Huhn and Michael Benham /Sun casting shadows 3:33 pm.

Checked the patch across the path south of the pond for the 3rd time – Pulled two or three blooming garlic mustard plants. Bush-walked my way west, scanning for GM patches; moving very carefully and thankful for Phil Huhn’s walking stick.

Found several blooming patches including some that had begun to go to seed. Photoed mayapples and wild geranium in bloom. Also noticed several invasive barberry bushes thriving, which need to be removed. Will photo them next time.

Besides pulling the GM also pulled several relatively small honeysuckle – at least 20 of them – and cut two or three larger ones with saw.

Kept noticing patches of a plant I didn’t recognize – turned out to be a native – Forest Bedstraw aka Wild Licorice – photo below Circaezans

Finished up walk on city property behind Colonial Square, where I pulled enough GM to fill my small plastic bag. Much more to pull – may need some help.
