White Snakeroot

White Snakeroot (Ageratina altissima) is a native plant to eastern North America. Snakeroot can grow to almost 5 feet tall. It produces a single or multi-stemmed clumps in mid to late summer and fall. At the end of the upper branches, an umbrella collection of white flowers, measuring 2 to 6 inches across. Snakeroot can spread either by seeds or by rhizomes.

Toxicity

White snakeroot contains the toxin tremetol. Humans can get milk sickness when ingesting the toxin by drinking the milk of cows that had eaten snakeroot.
