Collage of activities of the workday

Workday – October 4, 2025

Who: Anyone who’s willing and able to help. Scarlett students are welcome to participate but you must bring a parent.

Where: Meet at the bench near the showcase at the main entrance to the woods.

Why? Brush hogging along the pond south trail and trails to Old Elsworth. Trash cleanup along old Ellsworth and removal of invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle.

What to bring:

  • Brush Hogging: protective eye wear, loppers, boots and gloves,
  • Clean up: Plastic garbage bags and gloves,
  • Invasives: loppers, hand saws.

When: Saturday October 4, 2025 at 9:00am – noon.

Never done this before: Welcome! We’ll show you what to do and how to do it!

Snacks and water if desired. Mosquitos are out, so please apply repellent. Please shower with soap after being in the woods to wash any contact to poison ivy and do a tick check.

What we did: Together, we opened the trails in the central section of the woods with a brush hog, weeded around the benches and cut out a downed tree that was blocking the pond trail.  Phil and Kim continued to use the brush hog later in the day in another area of the park, so I added the photo of Kim with that machine.  Special thanks to Steve of Ann Arbor Guys for Good who came with energy and lots of tools!  Thanks again and much appreciation to everyone who showed up, including those who didn’t want their photos taken!
