Collage of Full Moon Serenade

Full Moon Serenade (Beaver Moon) – November 5, 2025 @ 7:00 PM

WHO: Everybody is welcome

WHAT: Singing at the benches by the pond.

WHERE: Meet at the main entrance to Scarlett Mitchell Woods (the kiosk west of Scarlett Middle School and south of the bus turnaround loop).

WHEN: 7:00 PM Wednesday November 5, 2025

WHY: Get a different view of the woods in the dark. See and hear the woods anew. We will sing some songs (if you feel like it).

On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the sunset in Ann Arbor will be at 5:23 PM.  We’ll be walking in the dark so grab your flashlight and join me for a walk to Manfred’s Pond (hopefully in the moonlight). Where we will serenade the moon at the benches. At 8:30 PM, you can continue the walk around the loop (about 15 minutes) or walk back to where we started. The trail is uneven so bring your flashlight, gloves, hat and something to sit on.

Spring Evening on May 4, 2024

A little Beaver Moon history:

Jonathan Carver in his book Travels through the interior parts of North-America in the years 1766, 1767, and 1768 he writes some Native Americans:

… nations among them reckon their years by moons, and make them consist of twelve synodical or lunar months, observing, when thirty moons have waned, to add a supernumerary one, which they term the lost moon; and then begin to count as before.

November, the Beaver Moon; for in the months the beaver begins to take shelter in their houses having laid up a sufficient store of provisions for the winter season.
